Top 15 player. All Star. Maybe 3rd team all-nba if his team had a good year.

I think he'd play more like Harden does in the current climate of the league.

His peak year was 29ppg/6 assists/5 rebounds/2 steals/58% TS, 13.6 win shares, 24 PER, All-NBA 2nd team, so going by his stats he would probably be among the top 10-12 players.

Could score his ass off, total ball dominator who got assists from dominating the ball, horrible shot selection and % and an absolute shit defender. The worst of the worst. So that would put him easily in the top ten PGs today.

Have you watched a single Rockets game this season? He's driving at will and cannot be guarded one on one

Top 5 player in the NBA

2005-2006 when Peak Arenas was around, the NBA was much more star oriented.

Maybe 2-3 players nowadays can match his 29\6\5.

So are you saying he'd be a shooting guard in today's NBA?

He'd basically be James Harden with a better shot, quicker and a little bit smaller body.

just curious - do any of you consider melo a top 10 player?

gilbert arenas in his prime was a solid volume scorer - and slightly better than melo at this point, so fringe top 10 at best.

Melo is his prime was a top ten. IS he still in his prime? He's not playing top ten ball this season.

Arenas was top ten for about three seasons (maybe two.) Definitely in 05-06 and 06-07. He was injured in the tail end of the 06-07 season. DAMN YOU GERALD WALLACE. He eared his "Crash" nickname that night.

that's where his silly ass nickname derived from? :oldlol: :applause:

and no - i dont consider melo top 10 this season. i wouldn't argue if someone did, but IMO he just doesnt have that impact he did in years past. surely PEAK hibachi is more respectable.

prime arenas would be the undisputed best pg in the league are you kidding me.

same guy who dropped 60 on the lakers and had streaks of 40+ point games? :facepalm

how quickly do we forget?

same guy who dropped 60 on kobe
Fixed ...

He was never a better PG, to quarter back a team than Chris Paul though. Nor a healthy Derrick Rose, and Westbrook. Those guys play vastly superior defense, while being comparable offensive talents.

But he'd basically be like a bigger, better version of Steph Curry. While playing on a dynamically less talented offensive team, and a much slower pace. That's essentially what he was before injuries. A better version of current Steph Curry.

Hibachi. Two guard masquerading as a point. Would fit right in.

kobe's not a pg :facepalm

and there is no pg today that can out-duel a prime bran save for gilbert arenas, who did during the playoffs. he was clutch, he had great shooting, great assists numbers, could drive better, and had a big, d-rose like body. he was the full package.

I remember he was clutch as f. Would go back and forth with Lebron in the playoffs, unfortunately the Wiz would always lose the series because they were terrible defenders. I don't remember him ever making a defensive play.

Top 10 PGs, I don't think he could put up those numbers in the current NBA since there are so many good PGs in the league, he would have to play a really good PG every other game.

Without Wall? Top 5 guard in the league, averaging less assists and rebounds than Harden and around the same avg of points.

What do the other point guards in the league have to do with him putting up numbers?

None of these PGs are defensive stalwarts. I mean is Steph Curry or Kyle Lowry gonna stop him from dropping 30 a night?

He was putting up numbers on Chauncey Billups, Jason Kidd, ect.

Easily a top 10 player

Prime Arenas averaged 29.3/3.5/6.1/2.0 on 45/37/82 shooting and 34/6/5 on 46/44/77 (60%TS) in the Playoffs...

He was unfortunate to be in a bad situation during the time though...his best team finished with a 45-37 record and made it to the 2nd round, the team had some names in Larry Hughes and Antawn Jamison, but their defense was terrible. At least you can say he made it past the 1st round with Kwamayyyy Brown, unlike Kobe.

Well, he will have to cover them won't he? Unless he will have his SG cover the tough PG every night, his numbers will decrease because he will have to exert at least a little energy on that end. Steph Curry has the cushiest job in the league, where Thompson is always the one covering the tough PG. MJ said the best defense he could play is wearing out the guy on the other end, when he was on offense and the other guy would tire out covering him. So no, I don't think he could keep up those numbers with this crop of PGs in the league.

BTW, I don't know why you brought up Lowry. He is an excellent defender. He would have his way with Curry though, not that Curry would be the one covering him :oldlol:

Stevenson/Hughes would guard his man. He didn't have a problem with it 7-8 years ago, I don't see it being a problem now.

Lowry is a good defender, but he's not stopping Arenas. Only Arenas stops himself.

His defense was awful too. Tons of weapons those teams had and couldn't do shit. Caron Butler, Huges, Jamison and Haywood wasn't bad then. That system was great for him because he didn't have to be a traditional PG in it and he wasn't in any way. They all sucked at defense.
