View Full Version : Kevin Durant Responds to ESPN Ranking Him as the NBA's 8th Best Player

ESPN's ranking of the top 500 NBA players has already left some superstars angry, and its ranking of 2013-14 NBA MVP Kevin Durant at No. 8 has understandably raised some eyebrows.

ESPN justified the ranking by explaining that the Jones fracture in Durant's right foot bumped last year's No. 2 down six spots, with Royce Webb stating "Instead of shooting jumpers, he's shooting selfies."

(He deleted the tweet afterwards) His response:

I hope KD comes back with a BANG!

Does anyone actually give a shit about ESPN's list of the top 500 players anyways?

8th place is laughable, outside of LeBron I'd take Durant with a gimp foot over anyone in the league.

LeBron and Durant are running the show right now, no one else is touching them.

First ESPN ranks Kobe 20 spots too high at 40 and then shits on KD?

The **** is wrong with these fools?

Wow! Bron and KD should be 1 and 2.

There's only 1 person I would take over KD and that's Bron.

KD was second, but he got injured so they dropped him.

It's about impact on the upcoming season. KD is going to play 50 to 65 games and is still number 8. They even said before the injury he had a 9.94 rating. So was 1 or 2.

To be frank, ESPN's lists don't hold much credibility to me anyway. And that's another example of why listing KD at #2. I'm not minimizing his injury in anyway, but dude is the reigning MVP and WILL STILL PLAY MOST OF THE SEASON! Plus he's still young and has MOST of his career ahead of him. KD is CLEARLY #2 and the most dominant alpha dog scorer in the world today.

Typical case of people reading a headline and not bothering to digest the actual story.

Regardless I think by the end of this Season Davis could possibly overtake KD.

Insanity. Unless Durant isn't Durant, that will not happen.

this thread is troll-like in its selective reading.

"Kevin Durant said he was "tired of being second," and now he doesn't have to worry about that anymore. Not for a while, anyway.

Instead of being No. 2 again in #NBArank, Durant is now No. 8.

Unfair? Sure.

Real life? Too real.

When it comes to title chances, MVP races and #NBArank, injuries hurt. That's what KD and his fans are finding out for the first time in his career after his Oct. 16 surgery for a Jones fracture in his right foot. Instead of shooting jumpers, he's shooting selfies.

Injuries involving casts often recast careers. If we go back just a couple of years, we can see how another reigning MVP -- Derrick Rose -- found his career profoundly sidetracked by misfortune.
OUR NEW PREDICTION ENGINE

These #NBArank predictions are powered by ESPN Forecast.

Durant's rating then and now

In September, we asked our ESPN Forecast to predict this season's performance for each player, including "both the quality and the quantity of his expected contributions."

According to our forecast, Durant rated as almost a perfect 10. His rating of 9.94 was set to be the best ever for a second-place finisher.

Now? Durant is down to 8.84, putting him behind not just LeBron James but a handful of other, healthier superstars.

By the time the season ends, maybe Durant will reclaim his spot in the top two of the NBA's pecking order. But if we're predicting what his overall impact will be this season, top two is no longer a good bet."
