View Full Version : Rubio shot 10/31 in FIBA WC 2014. That's 32.3% for a starting guard, that's garbage.

Averaged 5.4 ppg 4.4 rpg 5.1 apg which seems acceptable. Plays the same way in the NBA, which is uneffective and absolutely GARBAGE. Especially when your team plays in the west. Ship his fraud to the D-league lol

He's garbage, but he is flashy so his fans will defend him.
Also he's really cute. I wouldn't mind having him slice me in half like a coconut.

He needs to get his ass to the gym and work his butt off on shooting the ball every single night. Get him an elite shooting coach too or something. Seriously... this guy has been playing professional basketball since the age of 15 or 16 and his jumper is still as bad as some middle school basketball player.
His career FG% is 37. That's absolutely dreadful.

thats what happens when you spend too much time passing.

Rubio is a damn good passer and defender.
Which allows you to live with his shooting.

no one ever accused Ricky of being a good shooter so not sure how this is an anomaly worthy of a thread?
he's got a bit too much Derrick Rose in him.
Hardly a drama though, once Andrew Wiggins perfects his step back this summer all Rubio is going to have to do is kick over Andrew's way as the shot clock winds down.

The Timberwolves disagree.
They are looking at paying Rubio close to the max next summer.
Do you think that the Wolves would entertain such an offer if they had a problem with his shooting?
Along with great passing, he also picks off over 2 steals a game. He's not a bad defender, perhaps an above average one at the PG position.

it sucks for them because most of the playoff teams in the west are pretty young.
except for the spurs of course. grizzlies too

There are more ways to be effective aside from scoring, ya know? :confusedshrug:

Not making a comparison with this but Kidd is 40% from the field for his career. Was sub 40% in some of his prime seasons as well. Just saying.
Also, Kidd occasionally blew simple layups as well but nothing that bad lol.
Kidd could shoot threes but terrible midrange.
Rubio is pretty good hitting free throws but isn't a reliable shooter by any means. His mechanics look fine too. Maybe he isn't getting enough lift on his jumper:confusedshrug:

Timberwolves could have drafted a Curry/DeRozan backcourt in 2009.
Instead, they ended up with Rubio (probably didn't want to be there from the start) and Johnny Flynn (bust).

And that gif was the kind of crap Kevin Love had to put up with. No wonder they didn't make the playoffs in the tough west.

Give Nick Calathes the same playing time as Rubio he will put up better stats and impact the game more, that's all you really need to know in regards to how good Rubio is.

Can't shoot. Can't finish around the rim. He plays the same way in the NBA.

I said this before but I swear he gets worse everytime I see him play. His defense is at the same level instinct wise it was at 16, which is good, but he is still a pretty shit man defender. His passings around the same level, near elite, which it has been since 16. His handles have been okay, but gets out of control a lot of the time, which was a complaint when he was 16. And his jump shot/finishing ability is dreadful, seems to take and miss more shots every time I see him. Never saw the hype everyone has for the kid.

Worth putting those numbers in context. His assist average is the 3rd highest for the competition (with lower average minutes than the two higher). 4.4 makes him the second best rebounding guard in the competition and he's also averaging the highest steals per game by 1.
Everybody knows Ricky Rubio isn't a greater shooter, his low percentage is surprising nobody. And while I'd love for him to develop even a semi-consistent jumper or finish at the rim better, he still manages to affect the game big time. He's a true playmaker who works to get his team-mates good looks. He'll never be Stephen Curry, but too many people are underestimating what he brings to the game just because he's not a good shooter

What are you doing in the league if you can't create shots for yourself. Rondo had to do it. Nikka scored 40+ vs Heat and they had to injure him to stop him  Max contract but doesn't have the ability to takeover games or score easy points when needed. :facepalm
Question for you: If your first and second option are both cold then what happens next? Your point guard can only set teammates up but he can't create for himself, lemme be mean and say this: THE MAN CAN NOT SHOOT THE BASKETBALL. How do you win against elite teams with a player lie that?

IF he plays mediocre they won't give him a max. He's worth a look to see how he does with the four horses they brought in, but they aren't just gonna max him out with other potential max guys on the roster.

I heard the T'Wolves hired a shooting coach this summer to specifically work on Rubio Shot.
Not much improvement yet

So Love wins 40 games in a historically tough conference with his front court partner Pekovic missing almost 30 games, and his point guard Rubio struggling to shoot 40% and score double digit points a game....while on his own putting up 26/13/4/1/1 on 59% TS with 26.9 PER and a net on/off of +10.9....
And there's people questioning whether he's a top 5 PF or not :oldlol:
If Pekovic doesn't miss 28 games and you give Love just ONE player on the perimeter who can consistently and reliably create his own offense, say someone like Afflalo, is there any doubt he wins 48-52+ games?
I mean the dude is going out to battle with a PG that can't shoot and a center that can't stay healthy...in a conference with cores of Durant/Westbrook/Ibaka, CP3/Blake/Jordan/Crawford, Parker/Ginobili/Duncan/Leonard, Aldridge/Lillard/Batum, Curry/Thompson/Iggy/Lee, Howard/Harden/Parsons, Gasol/Zbo/Conley, etc. What the **** should we have realistically expected from those Twolves teams?
