Carmelo Anthony said Thursday there were business reasons in addition to basketball ones that led him to re-sign with the Knicks this offseason.

"I just couldn't leave from that perspective," he said at the Bloomberg Sports Business Summit in Manhattan. "There were so many opportunities that I started to build upon here in New York City, business opportunities, different situations.

"I just felt if I was to leave, I would have to start all over in the next place, meet new people, build that foundation up once again, and it took me a lot to build that foundation and get it up and going to where it's at right now."

This pretty much confirms Melo cares more about money than winning.

Well to be honest you can't really blame him :confusedshrug: I would do the same in his shoes, and pretty sure most of us here would

The players should care about money. It's on the owners to manage their money in order to win. Melo went on the market and took the best offer. What an asshole.

Melo still got monster offers from other teams. Personally, I would've gone to a good team (like Chicago) and win a championship. Then i'd retire when I feel like it and starting doing business from there...

I mean yeah money is money and I understand Melo is trying to grow his brand and everything. but I'd rather go down as a person who won something vs a person who was a good player, earned a lot of money but didn't have much success.

Exactly. Melo already has about $100 million. Why not just go to a good team, win a championship or 2, retire and then start the business stuff :confusedshrug:

He has already earned $135 million not including this contract.

Melo is a loser.

Lala wears the pants in that family. His 2003 peers all take a dump on his resume. LeBron is head and shoulders better. Wade was better. Young KD already passed him up as a player, and resume.

He's a glorified, super Glenn Robinson at this point.. Nothing more. People want to act like Kobe doesn't make his teammates better. This is the guy who does nothing, and shows no heart, toughness, or leadership.

That's why he needed to be on the Bulls. Everything else was taken care of for him in order to win.

You get used to having all that, and if you're a famous athlete, you already have it ...

Championships are on a different level of satisfaction than material wealth. We're not talking about living in the slums in Calcutta. Melo already has anything he wants.

But why bother arguing? You think Jordan was gifted 6 rings.

if u read my last post it was a question/suggestive discussion that i pushed to get some decent outside perspective (which you never providing me with btw) clown.

and what in the hell do you know about being famous and being rich. Floyd mayweather is extremely successful and hes all about the money and fame. like i said championships are never guaranteed ........... but the money can be why not take something that can be promised to you rather then taking less money for a chance??

There is more to life than basketball. Someone realizing this fact at around 30 is not a bad thing for the individual. For sports fans, it may be. Advice to all fans: train, become as good or better than Anthony and make the right choice. It's not forbidden.

I just love all you busted-ass posters who jump on Melo anytime you can because he snubbed your franchise. 3rd best player in the league stacking paper... and there's something wrong with that?

There isn't a player in the league who's main concern isn't money, unless they're retarded or smoking rock. Weak ass post from a poster who's game is getting weaker by the day. smh.

He's a Knick, and he's remaining a Knick. Suck it up.

Wait...I thought you guys LIKED it when franchise players stay with their team...you know, loyalty and shit. I thought you guys didn't like players who just jump ship for a championship bandwagon.

Make up your mind.....

He should give up half his salary to go to the Bulls led by a damaged Derrick Rose. :oldlol: Why? Knicks will have a better team in 10 months when they get Marc Gasol....patience.

Guys like you and Real14 are some of the most biased posters on this webstie. Melo is not the 3rd best player in the league. He's in the bottom top 10, IMO.

Don't get coy - if I wasn't biased, I wouldn't be in here - nor would yourself. You start posting about Knick players; I'm showing up. You're entitled to your opinion, but after last year I give Carmelo 3rd best.

Shouldn't you have your mind on that guy with the beard?

You really think Melo was better guys like CP3, Westbrook, Griffin, Curry and Davis? I mean yeah he was really good last year but not better than those guys.

Under the circumstances. Imagine how good he would have looked with some cohesion from that crappy group. 40 + minutes and solid just about every night. Any of those dudes you mentioned carry the whole effin' team?

Why so mad that an alleged loser in you eyes didn't choose the Bulls?

All he's done is win a title at Syracuse his freshman year, turned the Nuggets franchise around and got them to the playoffs every year he was there and then gets the Knicks to the second round in almost a decade.

  "that loser with no heart, toughness or leadership didn't choose my Bulls"

If a player takes less money to play on a good team: colluding

Takes the most money: doesn't care about winning

Stay with a bad team: its your fault you don't win a championship

Leave for a good team: winning a championship doesn't count

This is how we judge stars :facepalm unless you get drafted to a team that always makes the right choices, you're fucckd....

Oh wait, then you're a "system" player.

He wasn't a top 3 player when there was cohesion on his teams, which was 2009 (LeBron, Wade, Kobe) and 2013(LeBron, Durant, Paul... some even Kobe and Duncan), both seasons that are the highest rated for Melo by basketball fans who keep track of each season.

To be a top player 3 player in my book, it really comes down to how great you can also raise your game in the playoffs from the regular season (while also being elite there too). Since a Top 3 player didn't even get his team to the playoffs in a weakened conference, I can't really call him a Top 3 player at that point or even going forward.

You can say he's Top 3 SF, I wouldn't argue with that much, but I can't see him a Top 3 player. As for "carry" the whole team, it depends on what you mean as carrying. Nobody in the league can "carry" the whole team if were going to talk about literally, but some players last year just produced better results on the court to carry them into the playoffs.

In this case, Paul, Griffin, and Curry definitely had better seasons than Melo last year. Westbrook was hurt most of the year (was playing really well before it), but was arguably the 2nd best player in the playoffs. Davis is young and didn't have a good supporting cast either, but I would probably give Melo the advantage over him despite his 20/10 and leading the league in blocks.
