Quite a large sample (5 years), can someone explain this? He's never shot above 38% from 3 in the playoffs. ??

He chucks three pointers like they are layups in the playoffs, why would you expect anything different?

He lacks the stamina to contain such a level throughout the year

He's a far better shooter in the regular season, he can shoot over defenders. The drop doesn't seem to make much sense.

no pun intended

Do you think this a product of the offense (lack thereof) or his mentality?

Both.

Both, though more of the former. They over-rely on Durant and Westbrook during the playoffs. Westbrook's shooting% is drastically lower in the playoffs as well. Their toilet-clogged offense between the two, as Simmons would call it, is atrocious.

Playoff where defense happens

A dip on fg% or 3% is normal in the playoffs. Playing against the best players/teams while playing more minutes.

What is odd though...at least the last two years, is that Durant is shooting 81.8% from the ft line.

That is quite a big drop off when you consider he's been an 89% ft shooter over the last 5 years.

Could be a stamina/strength thing...or playoff pressure thing.

Just a minor slump, that's all. He'll get through it.

I agree that we should expect his 3 point percentage to decline, but not this drastically, given the fact that he can get an open look with his height regardless of how the defence play's him.

He probably see's far more double team's in the play off's and instead of finding the open man he shoots whilst under pressure/ off balance.

Kobe and Lebron are both 33% 3 point shooters in the playoffs.

It's obviously harder to shoot when the defense is more intense, and your opponent has planned ahead of time how to disrupt your game.

Kobe is a 33.5% regular season shooter, there isn't this huge differential...

Lebron was a poor shooter in his Cleveland days, his Miami 3 point % was good.

KD has struggled the last two years as teams have put smaller players on him to crowd him on the perimeter (Tony Allen, Chris Paul, Danny Green are examples) and this has caused him to misfire, at least by his regular season standards.

KD's lack of strength has really hurt him because he can't punish those smaller players in the post and he keeps getting pushed further from the basket or unable to break free for good looks when the game gets more physical in the playoffs. RW get a lot of criticism, some of it deserved, for shot selection but some of that has to with KD's inability to break free from physical defenders.

He will struggle until he addresses this weakness (pun intended) in his game.

his FT% drops in the PO only confirm what we all know about him

you don't even need to look at 3pt% for that
