View Full Version : If Kobe's game wasn't modelled after MJ's

And his game was completely unique. And he put up the same stats, same accolades. Would he be higher on your all-time list?

He's already #1, I don't think I could put him any higher anyway. But anyways, Jordan modeled his game after players before him as well. Kobe just took what Jordan stole and made it superior, as well as adding in his own to his arsenal.

Jordan obviously copied Kobe by going into the future.

Well Kobe would still have that amazing work ethic, just not those crazy fadeaways and the other MJ moves.

You could say a lot of the younger people might have him ranked lower if he had a less stylish game, even if he was more effective.

To me he would be ranked the same. Based mostly on how a player steps it up, and circumstances that they were in.

Also, the lack of Jordan comparison due to similar style would also hurt him. A lot less people comparing him to him, a lot less people getting emotionally involved and determined to prove that he was better than Jordan. Etc.

Yup, because style is more important to me than anything else. :facepalm

with the way Kobe is built and the athletism he was given...how else would an ultra skilled player play?

if he didn't, he wouldn't win anything. Kobe is just wise to improvise a proven effective style unlike some idiot who improvised a known cancer.

LeBron is a Kobe stan. See that, LeBron stans? LeBron is a Kobe stan. He said he grew up idolizing Kobe, he has the afro and wearing the old school Kobe Adidas shoes.

I have him at #9 all time for career, greatness and accomplishments, and somewhere around #15 in terms of on-the-court impact. How he gets the job done makes absolutely no difference to me. He could shoot the ****ing ball underhanded for all I care.

The fact that he modeled his game after MJ just made him more of a pleasure to watch. I criticize Kobe all the time, but the fact is he probably had the most aesthetically pleasing game I've ever seen. His athleticism was not as remarkable as Jordan's, but I think Kobe had slightly more refined offensive skills, including a more crisp handle and a better deep ball.

18 years and only one MVP? pretty unimpressive.

This thread is pointless (well it's pointless even under the context of it's subject because who gives a fcuk, but that's another argument...) by the OP because what kind of nonsense is s "completely unique" game. There is nobody with a game that is "completely unique" in the sense that nobody ever played that way. Basketball is not some complex game with all kinds of undiscovered ways to play...everyone has pretty much had the sport down by the 96 draft class, ha.

I guess Shaq's career is pretty unimpressive too.

He'd play like streetball kobe. absolutely SICK. I don't think he would've played as smart if he didn't model himself after MJ. He might've had a sensational but short prime a la Tmac/VC.
