I dont understand how he was allowed to skip college. Is it because hes australian and the school system is different?

Two criteria must be met for players to be drafted.

1.) They must be at least 19 years of age.

2.) The draftee must be removed from high school at least 1 year.

...Exum was able to be drafted because he graduated in 2013 and never enrolled into college.

This...

Exum competed in the Australian National High School Basketball Championships held between December 2013 and January 2014, going on to lead his team to the eventual title.[7][8]
On January 28, 2014, it was announced that Exum signed with agents from Landmark Sports and that he will declare for the 2014 NBA draft.

I don't believe the high school rule applies to internationals. Just needed to be 19 in the calendar year.

Could be wrong. I read that somewhere back when he declared and it stuck to me because it's bullshit if true.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you have to be 19 to get drafted.

Noah Vonleh is 18 and just got drafted by the Hornets.

Lots of others have played in NBA games at the age of 18

They have to turn 19 years old.

All players must be at least 19 years of age during the calendar year of the draft, and a player who completed basketball eligibility at an American high school must also be at least one year removed from the graduation of his high school class.

He finished school in 2013. Was it cause he has played in the AUS national side?

Wait I always thought internationals just had to be turning 19 during their rookie year. Other than that I didn't think they had to be removed from high school?

Exactly. The one year removed from your graduating class is strictly for American high school players, it doesn't apply to Exum since he is classified as an international player. Also, Exum isn't even the youngest player taken in the first round. Both Caboclo and Aaron Gordon are younger than him.

They have to TURN 19 years old. Meaning they have to turn 19 during the calendar year they're drafted in. I didn't say "They have to be 19 years old."

In the same calendar year, I have not looked but does Gordon turn 19 this year? If he does then all good.

Potential

It's the reason ppl had Oden over Durant, Bowie over Jordan, and people not willing to trade Wiggins for Love.

That magical "what could be" instead of "what is"...
