@WojYahooNBA Free agent Spencer Hawes has reached agreement on a four-year, $23M deal with the Los Angeles Clippers

Nice addition...must be the MLE.

I wonder if they still make a run for Deng with a S&T. Pierce for a S&T would be nice too.

The rest of their positions are really good even Hedo and Davis are decent, there's no reason shouldn't have at least made a conference finals these past 3 years, and they get no flack for not living up to expectations, especially Paul.

4 years 23 million for Hawes seems like a steal in this market honestly.

The 4th year is fine...he's in his prime. And that contract is not going to be tough to move if need be.

That's a good deal. There was rumors he was going to get $8 million. Although 4 years is a long time too.

Clippers got what they needed, a stretch big-man that is capable of solid rebounding.

He'll help them more than Collison ever did.

Yea...doesn't make much sense.

It isn't our biggest need or anything, but 23 million over 4 years for Hawes is just an asset. Especially going forward with cap and tax line increases over the duration of the contract.

Ugh...really starting to worry about the Mavs this summer.

I agree about the "negative impact" statement. His "value" reminds me of Kaman's value. Both put up good numbers. But when you actually look at the numbers, they don't translate to anything positive for the team.

The Clippers did get size though. He can be a backup 4/5 which they don't have.

IF you rely on Hawes to be your primary big man, then he won't be of much help. But a 3rd big behind DJ and Blake? Then he becomes valuable.

I mean, how many centers shoot 41% from the 3? Shit, how many centers even score 13 ppg on 57% TS? At the very least, he'll add another dimension to the Clipper's attack.

Except he'll be the only big on the team that can shoot the three. He shot it at 45% for the Cavs last season. Also he'll be the best passing big-man on the team as well and one of the better ones in the league. He's not a banger, but he's still tough and has an attitude about him he projects.

Agreed. Clippers are the deepest team in the league. Two legit stars + legit bench players. This team should really be making the WCF at least. The only reason they aren't copping the flack other teams would is because they're the ****ing Clippers. No one expects them to be good.

Yep. The Clippers will not make the finals because they're the Clippers. They can try as hard as they can to stack players on the bench, but they don't have enough heart to win it all.

If that's the production you are seeking from Hawes, 4 yrs 23mil just isn't even fair compared to how big mans are being paid these days.

I wouldn't say that, but they are very balanced and you're underrating them. Jordan is a great shot blocker and rebounder, Griffin is a great banger in the post that can hit the mid-range shot and both of those players can jump out of the gym. And Hawes does what both of those players can't do. Which is hit the three at an extremely high rate and is the best passing big between the three of them.

If you combine all their stats they averaged like 47 PPG, 32 RPG, 4.7 BPG between the three of them. :confusedshrug: Are there currently three big (legit PFs/Centers) on a team right now that have those combined stats?

I love the signing. Brings us another dimension/attack which we are missing. Good shooter, good passer, solid rebounder. Will be the best backup big man we have had since when DJ used to backup Camby. Huge upgrade over Big Baby and Hollins.

Now we definitely need to find a backup PG and get rid of Jared Dudley.

Can't call Thompson a scrub, he was literally our best player and the only one giving a consistent effort for the first two months or so of the season. Best rebounder on the team other than Varejao when healthy and getting better on offense with his jumper/push shot inside. As a Cavs fan, I'd rather have the developing Thompson, than have to pay Hawes to stick around.

From a Clippers standpoint, I love the signing though. Hawes is a great passer for a big man, fantastic shooter from top of the key area and surprisingly has some moves down low for someone considered to be a perimeter big man. Great compliment to DJ, he does all the things DJ doesn't do well and vice-versa.
