Baylor's offering him a coaching job and Silver's offered him an NBA job after/if he finishes his degree. :applause:

classy move. They should have some program for NCAA players who get injured in place anyway (if they don't already)

Don't like the special treatment, there are other qualified people/previous players.

Everyone office in America should hire a mental gimp with shattered dreams?

It's good PR for the league, not surprised they'd do it.

That's a hell of a stretch. If you're a "mental gimp", there's no way on earth you should be doing an office job.

Austin's problem is physical, that doesn't stop him from being able to coach or do various other basketball activities. Good on the NBA.

They gave him a nice ceremony and he has an insurance policy that will pay him 1+ mil. To give him a future job when they don't even know if he "really" qualify for it is too much, maybe it's just me.

maybe true........but the NBA needs a "feel bad to good" story after sterling

Oh I forgot about the standard "qualifications" to work in basketball. This is not the first player to immediately get on a coaching staff after college. Don't be such a dick.

If the kid works hard, the jobs will there waiting for him. That's the point, let him earn it.

Wah, wah, wah.

Kid worked his ass off to be a top talent and go pro. His dream was snatched away because of something out of his control. You don't think he put a lot of work into basketball? You don't think he has good character if two organizations are reaching out to him? You don't think he can inspire kids or be good for PR?

People deserve something handed to them once in a while.

Are you serious? Athletes have died from this.

Great move by Baylor/NBA. Love it.

it's a win-win...NBA gets good exposure from it all and Austin gets a shot to still be a part of the NBA. I understand the credentials portion of things that some of you mention, but I can't be upset over this push-forward. He was scheduled to make millions as an actual NBA player being drafted in the 1st round...glad he's still going to be apart of the NBA for the least.

Silver is building up his credit, which he has earned quite a lot since Sterling case, and this is another big one.

Austin has suffered a lot, losing his eye then his future career. Great for him.

Also, maybe the kid is smart with good grades. No need to assume that he doesn't deserve a position. Not like that are asking the kid to be their in-house legal counsel our something. I'm sure most NBA jobs are fairly simple and could be performed by most business majors at a state university.

stfu dipshit this isn't about marfan's it's about all the legwork he put into making it to the NBA draft and finding out he had marfan's days prior and that if the world was filled with assholes like you all that work trying to become one of the world's best basketball players might otherwisse have been "for nothing". I'm glad he got offered jobs. He deserves it. You have no clue how much commitment and effort it takes to be good enough to be drafted by the NBA.

Completely disagree. He worked his ass off for years to make the NBA, and went through a lot of adversity even before this.

Some people's dreams are bigger than money or fame.

Yeah, but his situation is unique in that he was going to be a first round pick, and his dream was ruined because of something completely out of his control.

He still has to finish 2 years of education at Baylor, and the NBA has offered him a job after that to work with NBA Cares. He's going to be an outstanding spokesman for that. He's going to bring a lot of awareness to this condition.

Stop hating people!
