Had surgery today

Joel Embiid underwent successful surgery on his right foot on Friday.

Embiid is expected to need four to six months of recovery.

Statement from Dr. Richard Ferkel: “Two screws were inserted into the navicular bone in Joel Embiid’s right foot. The surgery went very well and I’m confident that after appropriate healing he will be able to return to NBA Basketball. "

Drop to no. 15 now seems at least somewhat possible.

I really feel for Embiid. These past few days have been really crazy

He's definitely not gonna be the #1 pick. Im calling it right now... Wiggins to Cleveland

They can fork this up now

Interesting response. :confusedshrug:

JoJo seems like an incredibly nice guy. I feel terribly for him. Obviously, this was a blow for the Cavs in a way, but now I just feel sorry for Joel. And, I'll be rooting for a complete recovery wherever he goes.

His career literally hinges on whether or not he goes to a team with a competent medical staff and great trainers. This does not seem like a career threatening injury, but one which brings out issues if not handled well.

Hopefully he slides to #14 for Phoenix. They'll save him. Doubt he'd get out of the top 10 though.

A good pick for any team that was dissatisfied with last season's tanking and wants to try it again. I'd still want the Cs to draft him.

Why not? I'm not under the illusion that the 7th pick is going to be the savior of the Lakers, so why not take a chance? It could payoff huge.

Last year it was Noel, this year Embiid.

That sucks

With the 26th pick in the 2014 NBA draft, the Miami Heat select.. Joel Embiid from the University of Kansas.

He'd be ready around All-Star Break, but if I'm the team that takes him, he's sitting the entire damn season, and then some.

Didn't Noel say he was 100% for like half the season?

I think Noel will stay healthy. I don't see the same for Embiid. I think he knows his body won't allow him a viable career. He just wants to make some money before it's all over -- and why wouldn't he?

I hope he proves me wrong. The current crop of big men are putrid.

Doesn't seem to be a major injury from looking where the bone is.

Didn't Yao have the same injury?

I can still see him being top 5 tbh. Assuming a quick and healthy recovery, he'll be able to play within the first couple weeks of the season.

Yeah but Yao was older when he got injured. Also Embiid is way more athletic than Yao and moves better than he did.

Lol, navicular bone is the slowest healing in the body. ESPN study showed 6 big men in NBA history have suffered navicular bone injuries. They played in 47.5% of games after surgery

Yao also had many injuries before that, since childhood. He shouldn't be used as the model.

This kid seems to have been relatively injury free, well his past is pretty mysterious.

I'm leaning toward Wiggins. I think he has a ton of upside and he seems like the most natural fit for the group of young talent we've already accumulated.
