'49 Mikan Playoff Stats:

30.3 ppg, 18 rpg (conservative estimate), 2.1 apg on 54.1%TS (Absurd for the time considering that this was the toughest defensive era. 45.4% FG in a league with 32.7% FG average)

WS/48 = .420 MINIMUM

Won Ring

'64 Wilt Playoff Stats (picked best statistical year):

34.7 ppg, 25.2 rpg, 3.3 apg on 54.3% TS (good for the time but not absurd for the era like Mikan)

WS/48 = .323

Didn't win ring, obviously :oldlol:

WOW! Looks like Wilt blows Mikan away! That is until we adjust the stats for era:

'49 Mikan Stats adjusted to '64:

42 ppg, 24rpg, 4 apg on an adjusted to era 60.1% FG and like 70% TS

Tl;DR:

Mikan > Wilt

I wonder what those numbers would have looked like had Wilt had the good fortune to have played H2H against Mikan, don't you?

BTW, Mikan was not even the best center of his own era. Bob Kurland was.

Bob Kurland never went pro. This is the "NBA Forum" if you want to discuss college please go to the correct sub forum.

:biggums:
Lol those guys couldnt even keep up with me; slow unathletic, short white guys..worst defensive era of all time. People could barely dribble the ball

Just curious, and since you obviously saw them both play...

How do you think a COLLEGE Wilt, and a COLLEGE Kareem, would have fared in the NBA, had they been allowed to leave college early? BTW, in his first NBA game, all Wilt did was score 43 points, on 17-27 FG/FGA, with 28 rebounds, and reportedly 17 blocked shots.

I've never* been a big college fan tbh but no doubt college Wilt and Russell would've made great NBA players.

How about Kurland, then?

Would've, could've, should've but didn't. I prefer dealing in reality not hypotheticals.

Speaking of a COLLEGE Russell...

how about these comments from Mikan himself...

http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...g=2445,4482680

And keep in mind, that a prime Chamberlain was averaging 40 ppg against Russell, and taking far less talented rosters to within an eyelash of beating his HOF laden teams on several occasions...

Mikan was just being humble.

So you believe that Mikan would have routinely poured in 40+ point games against Russell, all while badly outrebounding him, and outshooting him from the floor by staggering margins?

BTW, can you find me post-seasons in which Wilt's teammates were outshooting him from the field by solid margins...

Wow...the '52 Lakers, as a team, shot .403...and Mikan "led" the way at .379.

Then in '53, with the Lakers shot .377, and once again, the ever efficient Mikan came in at an impressive .366.

Because players(not players such as wilt) werent as good shooters or good at finishing so players fg% was lower. Watch videos and see how players could barely dribble and how slow the game was. They wouldnt be able to defen anyone in todays game

Don't need to watch videos, I saw it live. By far the best era for basketball.

Mikan making his teammates better whilst Wilt "The Black Hole" Chamberlain didn't :applause:

In the up and down inflated stats 60s? Absolutely he would.

stats prove that Mikan > Wilt and it's not even close.

Mikan = winner and one of the all time great centers.
Wilt = choker and one of the all time talents but fails to do anything significant in when it matters most. Selfish stat padder.

Wilt > Mikan

Wilt could probably make today's league as a backup, but im not even sure Mikan would be able to make his HS team if he played today.

deja vu

I'd take Mikan over Wilt in a heartbeat. Mikan was a proven winner and champion who made his teammates better, whereas Wilt was the epitome of a choker.

Pretty much. Good post.
