"I’m over all of that. I know I’m one of the biggest busts in NBA history and I know that it’ll only get worse as Kevin Durant continues doing big things … It’s frustrating that my body can’t do what my mind wants it to do sometimes. But worrying or complaining about it isn’t going to fix anything … I wish the circumstances would let me play more, but I certainly don’t regret coming back, and I don’t regret signing with the Heat.

My cousin got wrapped up in the NBA lifestyle and threw parties at my house all the time. So I got wrapped up in it too. When I played well, I’d drink to celebrate. And when I played poorly, I’d drink to forget. That second year in Portland I pretty much became an alcoholic."

     this nikka close to acceptin he THE biggest bust ever:applause: :applause: :applause:

Imagine this Portland team with Durant

Durant was clearly the better prospect too when you looked at everything. He absolutely dominated college's best defenders his freshman year and it had the elite height/length/athleticism to carry that into the next level.

Don't tell the media that though. Oden was the next coming of Shaq and Durant sucked at basketball because he couldn't bench 185 pounds :oldlol:

Owning up that injuries derailed his career?

Sad part about it is that Oden has heard himself called a bust for years that he doesn't even understand what the word means.

Big difference between bust and injury's

OP is not a nice guy.

Seriously though, it's so easy to sit at your keyboard and laugh at someone else. But I doubt you have experienced even 1/100th of the pressure that was placed on this guy's shoulders when he was still basically just a kid. I'm almost 30 and I wouldn't even be able to function if I had to deal with the stuff this guy went through.

It's so easy to forget that these guys are coming into the NBA damn near fresh out of high school. Even a guy like Lillard that spent 4 years in college is still a damn kid when he gets out.

There are a lot of people I don't like in the NBA. But most of them are at least pretty decent humans; no better or worse than you or I would be in the same situation. There is no joy to be had by laughing at the misfortune of another person.

sure but money isn't everything. Without injury he would have been one of the best in the league by now. You don't even need to feel bad for him..but you can be a bit sympathetic towards his situation.

and also injury does not equal to a bust ..I feel like that term is being misused a lot nowadays :confusedshrug:

I really had high hopes for Oden coming out of college but injuries really messed his career up. I don't really feel sorry cause he still making his money but I feel some type of way cause we didn't get to see him reach his full potential.

I honestly wasn't a big KD fan back and I thought he wouldn't be that good because of his size.

Still though looking back I would still pick Oden over KD. If Oden was healthy he would've dominated the league.

I got respect for Oden for saying this.

This kid was screwed all the way around.

Looks like the pressure/anxiety was getting to big for him especially after his first major injury his rookie season. But as an athlete it's easier to recover from alcoholism than major knee problem. I can't imagine all that hype riding on him from high school claiming he's the next GOAT big but not even playing his rookie season.

But he has made millions and has showed people when he was healthy he looked to be a very good NBA player(even after the rookie injuries)

Well its a good thing that at least he realizes whom he is, this is necessary for him to get used to being a role player and learn to help the team in many possible ways.
