View Full Version : Kevin Durant tying MJ's scoring streak tonight.

One of the most impressive streaks ever.

It's basically equivalent to Joe Dimaggio's hitting streak in baseball. They're equally as difficult.

Durant is going out every single night and getting a 'hit'.

Because he only had 3-5 attempts a night?

You could argue that with Durant's insane efficiency and low amount of shot attempts, that they're equal in that regard

And as a sidenote...Ted Williams hit for a higher batting average in that same 56 game span.

To be honest, I never could understand the value of this record. Theoretically a player could bat less than .250 and still have a 56 game hitting streak.

As for "MJ's record"...I guess Chamberlain's 106 straight game streak of 25+ point games doesn't count.

Or 65 straight games of 30+.

Or TWO separate streaks of 14 40+ point games (and in which he averaged 53 ppg in one, and 54 ppg in the other.)

Or 7 straight 50+ point games.

Or a "mini-streak" of 351 points scored over the course of five straight games (70.2 ppg in that streak.)

Maybe the Rockets will employ the same strategy that the Knicks did against Wilt in his 100 point game...start fouling Durant's teammates.

This shit is a perfect example of Wilt's greatness getting disrespected here by people who have never seen him play. People basically forget about matching Chamberlain and shoot for "most games in a row with 25+... well, aside from Wilt". His accomplishments were so far beyond what anyone else can ever do that they don't even bother trying to challenge him.

Of all his memories of Wilt Chamberlain, the one that stood out for Larry Brown happened long after Chamberlain's professional career had ended. On a summer day in the early 1980s, when Brown was coaching at UCLA, Chamberlain showed up at Pauley Pavilion to take part in one of the high-octane pickup games that the arena constantly attracted. "Magic Johnson used to run the games," Brown recalled Tuesday after hearing that Chamberlain, his friend, had died at 63, "and he called a couple of chintzy fouls and a goaltending on Wilt. "So Wilt said: 'There will be no more layups in this gym,' and he blocked every shot after that. That's the truth, I saw it. He didn't let one [of Johnson's] shots get to the rim." Chamberlain would have been in his mid-40s at the time, and he remained in top physical shape until recently Stewart, Larry (1999-10-13). "Giant Towered Over the Rest". The Los Angeles Times

Wilt overcompensated and gave all his strength into that handshake for appearance purposes and the old man wants to feel relevant and strong among the young guys, and Shaq was just giving a regular old handshake and he got caught off guard.

The FACT was, and ANYONE can see it by the footage, that Wilt was in better shape, at 60, than a prime Shaq.

Real men give firm handshakes. Shaq was an up-and-coming dominant center meeting the MDE. Yes, he was caught off guard, but the fact that he didn't go strong shows that Wilt has the alpha mentality over Shaq.

Do we really need to get out the playoff stats and Wilt's colossal amount of times where he choked?

Just for the record....here are Wilt's numbers in his 23 post-season ELIMINATION games...

Wilt's numbers in those 23 games...13 of which came against HOF starting centers.

12-11 W-L record

31.1 ppg (Regular season career average was 30.1 ppg)
26.1 rpg (Regular season career average was 22.9 rpg)
3.4 apg (Regular season career average was 4.4 apg)
.540 FG% (Regular season career average was .540 FG%)

3 games of 50+ points

5 games of 40+ points (including a Finals 40+ elimination game)

13 games of 30+ points

6 games of 30+ rebounds

20 games of 20+ rebounds

And he put those numbers up while just CRUSHING his opposing centers in those games, including Russell, Reed, and even Kareem.

LAZERUSS
04-05-2014, 12:48 AM
Furthermore, here are Wilt's post-season numbers in his 37 games in which he was facing elimination, or could eliminate the opponent...

W-L : 24-13

Here were Wilt's averages in those 37 games:

29.5 ppg

26.1 rpg

4.2 apg (missing one game)

.546 FG% (in post-seasons that shot about .440 on average in that span.)

Keep in mind that 24 of those 37 games came after his "scoring seasons" (59-60 thru 65-66)

Furthermore, when I have the time, I will post his OPPOSING CENTER's numbers in those games, as well.

Again, just destroying the likes of Russell, Reed, Bellamy, Thurmond, and Kareem...
