Game 7 Rebellion: Mavs Overthrow Spurs

Dirk: "I saw everything slipping away, the great season we had..."

Epic and very emotional Recap. Shivers guaranteed, gives me goosebumps every single time and almost made me cry.

Just sad we got fcuked in our butthole in the Finals smh.

For the Laker Fans, a Fan also did this for the Lakers vs Blazers 2000 Game 7:

I have my collection of Basketball Videos, and these are definitely some of the best from the early/young YouTube stages, with not quite staggering graphics yet. They live on pure emotions.

Great moments for all Mavericks Fans (and Laker Fans for the other Video)

Edit: Thought this would be a good distraction from all the Kobe/LeBron/Durant talk on here :P

Duncan would have had five rings if it wasn't for Manu's foul...

Mavs lost the Finals, Spurs won the next Finals. Hard to say Spurs were truly "overthrown" at the time.

Some crappy calls in that series that went the wrong way for the Spurs (Duncan fouling out when Dirk tripped on his foot) but those Mavs were excellent.... bad calls happen.

Avery won COTY if I'm not mistaken? ... He deserves some credit for getting their team to play D and he knew the Spurs playbook

Devin Harris in some of the games out-Parker'd Tony Parker.

Duncan and Dirk played about as good as each other on offense, while Duncan played better D having to play alot of center (Spurs went small)

Manu made a dumb mistake, and no surprise a 7 footer in Dirk was able to finish over a SG. Diop's defense (on Duncan) in OT is very underrated/forgotten. Even though Tim had plantar fasciitis

Spurs got tricked into going small-ball and had freakin Finley playing PF at some points, when the whole season they had Rasho and Nazr holding down C.

Please guys, just appreciate the Game

I'm sure even Spurs fans can gladly look over this one as a loss between 2 greatly respected franchises in an epic battle&series. You've had your fair shares of chips :applause:

Duncan and Dirk, 2 great sportsmen&leaders..

There's nothing like great rivalries, and I feel this definitely added fuel to the rivalry, as Spurs were usually on the winning side.

I can definitely appreciate the in state rivals, and appreciate the Mavs roster from top to bottom.

And don't forget Spurs battled back from being down 1-3 to make it a 7 game series :applause:

Gotta love it

It's funny how it's Manu's foul that "cost" the Spurs the game when Manu was the one that hit a 3 to give the Spurs that 3 point lead.

Agreed. I'd give the Suns in the WCF a bigger/better chance of beating the Spurs..

*Suns without Amare Stoudemire

Note: the playoff seeding rules were changed after this season, as to not have the 2 best teams in a conference (Spurs and Mavs) meet prior to the WCF. And to prevent 'tanking' for a better playoff spot (Clippers).

Spurs were built to face a team like the Heat. Had the bigs to throw at Shaq and the perimeter defender to put on Wade. Would they have won, idk, but it's more their style of play

Wade would have owned the Spurs like Kobe did the entire decade tbh. Would have been a fun series to watch and see how inefficient Duncan would have been. Shaq would have probably limited Duncan to sub 50%TS like Duncan usually shoots in the Finals vs a good defense.

What exactly are we classing as a good defense?

By your standard (Def Rtg), Duncan went up against 2 good defensive teams in the Finals ('99 Knicks didn't have Ewing).

2003 Finals vs. Nets (#1 in Def Rtg):

.546 TS%

2005 Finals vs. Pistons (#3 in Def Rtg):

.471 TS%

Half the time is "usually"?

And Duncan lit up Shaq when he guarded him in '03. :confusedshrug:

Meh...the Spurs just had better players and teams.

I think Dirk would have been just fine playing with more help and perhaps the GOAT coach compared to less help and a terrible coach actually...

This notion that Spurs/Duncan fans perpetuate about Dirk having as good of coaching/help as Duncan since 99 is quite laughable. It's actually not remotely close on the whole...but there were some years it was close or the Mavs had the better team. Mavs were better in 03 and 09 and were probably even in 06.

But just a general statement about Dirk not being able to win on Pop's teams...please. That is vastly under-rating Pop and the help Duncan has had throughout this career.

Also, people forget that Terry was suspended for game 6 in that series as well

Like I said in the other about classic Spurs fans. You guys simply are unable to give other teams credit. SCdac blaming the 06 loss on bad calls....rofl

Uhh....no. The Spurs got outplayed in that series and if we are going to go hypothetical...that series should have been over in 6 and it only wasn't because Terry missed game 6 and the Mavs lost by 5 at home without him.

But...meh...the Spurs vs Mavs since 01 has been super tight. In games Dirk and Duncan both play, the Spurs are 18-15 now to date. And that includes a 4-1 series in 01 in which the Mavs were in the playoffs for the first time and the Spurs had a way better team. From that moment on it's been dead even on games won...
