The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed forward Tracy McGrady.

In 938 career NBA games, McGrady has averaged 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.21 steals in 32.7 minutes. The 6-8, 225-pound forward has suited up in 44 career playoffs games, averaging 25.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.16 steals in 38.5 minutes.

Because during his stint in Atlanta it was widely reported that he was a malcontent who thought he should be getting starter's minutes... and 2 starter's shots.

Hopefully time has given him the chance to step back and see what/who he is at this stage of his career. Couple that with the veteran influence and Pop, and the Spurs may have struck gold.

It's a big deal because once upon a time he showed the potential to be an all-time great, and he gained a ton of fans along the way. In the early 2000s he was viewed by many as a taller, more gifted version of Kobe.

I'm just hoping for the highly unlikely event in which TMac suddenly re-visits peak mode, averages 25ppg and leads to Spurs to the finals, only to lose to the Heat in 7.

You should not be indifferent as a Spurs fan. It is a big deal because T-Mac is going to wreak havoc on the Spurs when he isn't given a starting role and major create drama and chemistry issues. I thought the release of Jacko meant the spurs were playing going to play at least 2 PGs at the same time for at half of the game or increase the minutes of leonard significantly. What's funny is if T-Mac is able to come over and contribute for the Spurs and help them do well in the Playoffs, Euroleague will probably use that as evidence that the Chinese Basketball Association > NBA.

Im really excited about this. I thought Tmac wasn't gonna play another nba game after all. He is still one of my favorite player even when the times he failed to get to 2nd round. Hope he can finally do that and actually does well for Spurs. Im sure Greg Pop will somehow motivate him to playing a lot more competitive than before. This is a low-risk and potentially high-reward signing for Spurs, good for them. If Tmac gets few or even one high scoring game off the bench (which he is still capable off), this could mean a lot in the Playoffs.

Always have had huge respect (well not always, hated them when I was younger) for the Spurs, especially Tim Duncan and Gregg Poppovich. Now that T-Mac is with them, I am now officially rooting for the Spurs these playoffs. T-Mac was my favorite player in his prime and have always wanted him to succeed.

It would be sick for him to get a championship this season contributing significant enough minutes, and then retire at years end. That would really make up for what to me was a rather boring, injury-filled, and non-competitive year in the NBA.
