My vote will be for Unseld.

Curious to hear from anyone else who would like to help me lay out the case for Westley over The Big E.

I think those two are good choices for spots 41 & 42.

Guys like Kidd, Payton, Gervin, Nique, Thurmond, Arizin and McAdoo right around the corner. Not to mention of course Dwight Howard who probably warrants consideration pretty soon.

Paul Pierce, he should have been voted above Iverson. He is at the very least a top 50 player of all-time, it's time he gets his recognition.

His stats are awesome. The only reason he retired was because Philly was moving to San Francisco and he didn't want to move. He was still at 22 a game when he retired. He stayed in Phily and played for the Eastern League (the NBA's premier rival before the ABA got started.) He went on to win a championship and MVP his first season.

Anyway, my vote is for Jason Kidd.

Gail "The Gawd" Goodrich.
Goodrich wasn't even chosen on the top 50 greatest players of all-time in 1996. Since then there has been players like Kobe, Duncan, KG, Dirk, Lebron, Nash, Kidd, Iverson, Wade, Pierce, Dwight. And you want to vote Goodrich #41?

I love paul pierce as much as the next guy but he really doesnt warrant being ahead of any of the guys mentioned

were at 41 and it STILL bothers me that iverson was at 36 :lol

Yes, he deserves to be over all of them. The only one I wouldn't mind making it over him is GP and Unseld. Pierce was better than the rest.

How is Pierce a better small forward than Wilkins?

I consider Iverson to be in a tier above Pierce. He was unquestionably a better player at his peak. Pierce was certainly never a top five player and rarely was he even in the top ten for any given season. I consider him top ten from 2002-04 and again in 2008, but no other seasons.

Iverson, Kidd an Payton (all a tier above Pierce in my mind) were all top ten at least 6-7 seasons and all peaked as top four players in at least one season.

As franchise players all of those other guys won more playoff series than Pierce and got their teams to the playoffs more often. Their stats were as good or better in most categories and they have more impressive and complete individual resumes based on accolades and awards

Heh, I thought I would be the first to mention Arizin, but it's good to see him get some love. I dont' see him this hight but Top 50-60 range seems legit, just going off the top off my head here.

Other 40's-50's players that are still out there and probably should make the Top 100 ISH list:

Neil Johnston, Bill Sharman, Ed Macauley, Joe Fulks, George Yardley, Tom Heinshon, etc..

Steve Nash has been interchangable in a PG list with the likes of GP and Kidd. How can they not be considered withing 3 spots all-time? I'll say Kidd. The second greatest and most impactful player all-time who can change the whole outcome of a game with only passing.
Was a better defender than Magic, led much weaker teams, an NBA champ as a starting PG, a could have been 2x MVP.....

Kidd my friends, Kidd

George Gervin:
- 5 x All-NBA 1st Team
- 4 x All-NBA/ABA 2nd Team
- 12 x All-Star
- Led the NBA in scoring for 4 seasons
- Ranks 14th in career points (on .504 FG%)

One of the greatest offensive players of all-time. It's not his fault he played for awful teams - his teammates were notoriously bad.

My vote goes to Wes Unseld...
From the games I saw of him, he had a terrific impact on the court. He made everything go right for his team, which experienced a decade's worth of playoff excellence under his leadership.
The league recognized it, giving him plenty of individual honors even though his stats weren't the sexiest.
Oh, and he looked like a badass Indian chief, which can only help his ranking.

Longevity and sustained peak.

How much of a longevity edge can you give him? Both were pretty much done by 1980. Hayes kept playing, but not at a high level or for a contending team.

As for sustained peak, I'd argue that Unseld, while adjusting his style of play after injuries in 1973-74, actually remained nearly as effective and even then was considered more important to the Bullets success by many people, especially players.

I always rank Unseld ahead of Hayes simply because they played together and by most accounts I've found reliable, Unseld was the guy who made the thing go.
