Probably one of the most underrated aspect of his game and probably a top 10 passer of all time.

I think his passing is probably second to none other than Magic Johnson. Last of a dying breed in regards to the flash and precision of these passes.

Enjoy the video.

Top 10 all time? Are you ****ing retarded?

2nd all time for the Lakers? Ever heard of Norm Nixon? Jerry West? Nick Van Exel was a better passer too though his stay was short. Top 10 all time? He's not even top 10 over the last 5 years and he would not even make a top 10 list of passing g/f's all time.

The passes in that video speak for themselves. Kobe is an amazing passer. Flashy and efficient. I just wish that he had a little more of that passers mentality because if he did he would be unstoppable like Jordan in the 1991 Finals. As a Lakers fan it pains me to say it but in the 1991 Finals when Jordan was moving the ball the defense didn't know whether to shit or go blind.

More efficient maybe but not sure about more effective.

Passing is an embedded part of the triangle anyway, I don't think that was ever his job. His job is to make plays, and for someone of his qualities I think scoring first and passing as a last resort isthe best option.

Because his PGs were Derek Fisher, Smush Parker, and Ramon Sessions. None of which were your traditional pass-first playmaking/distributing PGs. Not to mention, most of his career, Kobe has done the most ball handling for the Lakers in the halfcourt.

This isn't directed at you, but that is another "fact" Kobetards like to use when speaking of his great passing ability without putting the "fact" into context.

Kobe is gifted as a passer. Technically and in terms of being able to see passing options he's good. However I recall Phil Jackson saying something, earlier in his career, vaguely along the lines of Kobe always seeing the right play but not always choosing it. The assertion that he is a top ten passer all time, or 2nd to only Magic, even if talking about only about technical skill, is simply not credible.

Kobe is a brilliant passer. The reason a lot of people tend to underrate it or overlook it is because he is deemed as much more of an individual scorer, meaning he tends to look more for his own shot. Still he pretty much averaged 5 assists his whole career, which is great for a SG by the way. And I agree, another reason why he is a more underrated passer is because it's believed he is reluctant to actually pass.

Great video by the way. Anyone who doubts Kobe's passing ability or claims he isn't a skilled passer is also way over their heads, same with those claiming he's top 10. Though he can be argued for maybe top 15-20.

THIS

Plus, for many years he was wasting passes on Kwame, Sasha, Bynum, Mimhs, Odom etc.. And they would never be ready for his unexpected passes.

On may nights he could have had 8+ assists if players weren't lounging around being KB spectators.. Although that's in part Bryant's fault since his teammates know that his primary focus is shooting.

Kobe is a very willing passer, ppl act like he's not. 1 less than MJ is not horrible specially in the triangle(MJ with Phil avg 5 per game). What makes him look bad is the fact that he does not like to pass in crunch time.

It's kind of hard to rate somebody as a passer when they never pass in the first place. :oldlol:

He is an underrated passer in terms of his passing capabilities but he doesn't utilize it as much as someone like Lebron does. I always thought in terms of just purely skill, Kobe and Lebron were even as passers. The edge goes to Lebron for having more size and being more willing though.

I think Kobe is one of the better passers EVER for a SG. Kobe was always a guy who could play and defend PG, SG, and SF. The thing is Kobe's mindset is to dominate scoring. He's doesn't balance dominant scoring and dominant passing the way Bron does. But Kobe, similar to MJ, is player that can dominate a game passing as well. But I think MJ was even a more willing passer than Kobe. The only SG's I can name off the top of my head that are just as good or better passers than Kobe are MJ, West, Wade, TMac, Iverson, Pete, and Drexler. Other than those guys, I will take Kobe's passing ability over any other SG's. And when he's in playmaker mode, I think he can arguably be the best passing SG. It's just that his mindset isn't as willing as other SG's. But he has the talent, vision, handle, and creativity for it.

And let's not forget this, Kobe most of the time was the de facto PG for the Lakers anyway. Blake, Fisher, Harper, and Smush were the PG's he played with a lot. And even though with the triangle u don't always need a real PG, Kobe was still the main setup guy on the Lakers. Kobe as a rook for all intensive purposes played a lot of backup PG coming off the bench. He was actually being compared a lot to Penny Hardaway because he was running PG that often pre Phil and triangle. That's why having a guy like Nash alongside him will take a heavy burden off of Kobe.

Kobe fans trying to prop him up for being a good passer are saying exactly the same stuff they use to push the "KOBE IS AN ALL-TIME GREAT DEFENDER" agenda - that he CAN do it at an elite level, but just doesn't do it all the time. Which isn't a great argument.

It's one thing to run a play and lead the man to his sweet spot or something like that. It's another thing to be able to get to the lane and then just kick it out to an open teammate. Both take skill, but let's be logical about this. Top 10? In what? For sure not the NBA.

Kobe is an overrated passer and an underrated passer apparently.

Kobe is incredibly overrated when you try and say he is a top 10 passer of all time.

Kobe is an underrated passer when you don't realise that averaging 5 assists per game for multiple years is a pretty good average, and is not at all indicative of someone who doesn't pass.

Kobe is overrated when people say he is close to Magic...

Kobe is underrated when people say he isn't one of the best passers currently in the league not at PG. Hell he's definately top 5 in terms of non PG passers currently in the NBA.

It's threads like this one that makes people hate Kobe though, and that much I know for sure.

Kobe is an amazing passer and if you deny this you're a moron. As a Laker fan, I can say that the problem is his willingness to pass will completely change from one quarter to another. You never know if you're gonna get shot jacker Kobe or crazy wrap around pass Kobe. It's hard to keep your teammates in the flow of the offense if they don't know what to expect. This leads to passes bouncing off his teammates hands because they're not looking. Then Kobe reverts back to turn-around off-balance jumper mode.
