View Full Version : NBA likely going to Advertisements on Jerseys Next Season

A series of tweets from Ken Berger of CBS Sports
Ken Berger@KBergCBS
Silver says his sense is that every team is in favor of jersey ads in some form.
Ken Berger @KBergCBS
The current idea, which Silver said needs more discussion, is to have a 2-by-2 advertisement patch on the shoulder of jerseys.
Ken Berger@KBergCBS
Silver says guidelines on jersey ads would be in effect for next season, but the ads wouldn't appear on jerseys until the following season.

Nets will have a Prokhorov face patch by 2014.
I like it, as long as its not junky like NASCAR. Wnba has it. Only looks semi weird

Sooner or later we're gonna see the backboard with Starbucks and Sprite signs on it. The entire floor will look like a Nascar car. :lol
It's A VC3!!!

I really don't like that idea. The players don't need to have their jerseys bloated by advertisements and stupid looking patches. I find it absurd but Adam stated that 100 million dollars will be earned for going that route.

The ring and back board will be made to look like someones open mouth and face, the ball will be a piece of KFC popcorn chicken. Portland's sponser will be band aids\health insurance\retirement plan company. L.A' will be a rape lawyer, Bucks can have a moped comany.
no. please god no. it aint like the WNBA or the MLS where the NBA is hurting for more ways to get revenue. i understand its the norm for european leagues but not here. once we get advertisments on jerseys, we'll never call ourselves better than MLB or NFL (if that was possible in the first place)

And the thing is, if they're going to put ads on jerseys it's gonna to have to be big like the ones on WNBA jerseys.
A 2x2 patch on the shoulders? Would companies even want to spend millions for that size?
when i see these things whether it be football/b-ball overseas or hockey in europe, it reminds me of soccer with all the ads you see on their league jerseys
I don't like it at all. I love the NBA uniforms as is

Flopping and now advertising on jerseys? What is next? Are they going to make the basketball rim 8x24, allow passing with your feet, and officially make the NBA the game for bitches?

My first response to advertising on jerseys was negative. I would support it if owners would use some of the revenue to lower ticket prices

Im surprised they haven't gone this route earlier. and yes this is probably just the first step in a slippery slope of advertisements placed absolutely everywhere they can jam them on a court

It was a reference to the video of LA fans giving Nash a keystone.
And I'd imagine the owners would be careful with who sponsors who....
I mean, we're gonna see Viagra sponsor the Celtics.

i know what's gonna happen now. seeing how small a 2x2 ad is on a jersey, the only time you'll see it is during freethrows. now the league has an excuse to make way more crappy calls to get players to the line. stern is at it again i tell u!!! such an clever evil man he is.

They should put adds in the breaks on League Pass... Instead of dead silence, make some $$$...
Advertising on jerseys/court looks so amateur:facepalm The Australian league is like that, jersey covered in sponsors and the court is a fu*king mess with signs and shit..
Once you start with one small sponsor, then its a bigger one on the back, then the jersey is covered in shit:mad: Greedy bastards...

What about when teams start renting their names to companies. We had that in domestic cricket here. You could see the "State Farm Knicks" or the "McDonalds Celtics"

WOW... That's what we need more advertisement from money hungry corporation. I guess they figure you don't get enough of them on cable (You know, that service you have to pay for, and yet you still get bombardard with commercials) and internet pop ups and banners just like that Domino's banner you see to the right over there. You can't get away from advertisements now.

This is really opening up a Pandora's Box to something that could really hurt the league, imo. It will start out a patch on the shoulder of one arm and it could end with a total mess of colors/logos years down the road.
Sorry, but I think there are some things that should remain untouched by advertising.
Hell, it is bad enough that corporations have killed what used to be really cool/unique names of stadiums/arenas around the country. Gund Arena had style... It had an actual meaning to the city. Now, it's Quicken Loans Arena, which makes you feel like you are going to watch people pay their mortgages rather than watch a basketball game... And 'The Q' is one of the better ones.
Seriously... F#ck adverts.

Like everything that Dictator Stern is involved with, this idea will eventually turn to sh!t.
Ads on unis have been rumored for years, so no surprise that its going to happen. As long as the patches are small, I don't have a problem with it.
But watch the Dictator push for more than one ad, then another, and then another...
