Mayo is small and athletically inferior. He's regressed since his rookie year, I don't understand why people still keep saying Mayo has a superstar potential and are so sure that he will be better than Wade soon. He already had a good shooting stroke entering the league and was two year older than his class peers, from the beginning, he didn't have not much room for improvement.

Here's why: he's a shooting guard, we've been led to believe he has a killer instinct, and we've been hearing about him since he/we were like 12

But by now, if you have any brain cell, you should've got the fact straight already? Tons of posters are still saying Mayo will be averaging 25-5-5 in a couple of years and it just leaves me speechless...

Did you not sense the sarcasm in my post? Any time you have a SG with size, and any semblance of a "complete game"... he will be considered to have "superstar potential"

He supposedly has a killer instinct... yet he's a seventh man

Its all because his name has been in the basketball world for the last 10+ years.

OJ Mayo has more natural talent/potential but James Harden is far more consistent when he has far less mental issues. OJ Mayo seems to have that Jr Smith thing where he wants to be the man and has trouble adjusting to lesser roles.

I just based it since they were both drafted the same year, but DeRozan averaging 17 PPG without a 3 or handles is pretty impressive if you ask me, plus i heard hes a gym rat

I'm a Grizzlies fan, but I'm going to have to go with Harden. I believe he is able to adapt to playing a role much better than OJ can. And a lot of times, thats all the team needs, unless you're on the level of Kobe or something.

Harden is also and underrated playmaker. He has some pretty impressive court vision and passing among the league's current 2-guards.

Haymaker

Harden takes better decisions, hustles more, defends a little better.

OJ Mayo right now, I'm talking about the Playoffs. Harden had the better overall year but OJ has more potential, we saw that the moment he stepped into the League and averaged near 20 points.

OJ has regressed or rather limited his contribution for the team for the betterment of the team. His numbers has gone down since he came to the league. If he was on some developing team or a non-playoff contender his numbers will be higher than they are now. But i see harden as the type of player who can fit in more easily in any team because of his play making capabilities which is probably the only advantage i see in him against mayo. Mayo can score and carry a team better than harden but harden can do more for a team than just shoot. Defensively i see them both as equals. So if i had to pick between them id pick harden.

derozen is pretty one dimensional

He is. Has become a solid mid range shooter, but that's all he gives you now. That is why he probably has the highest ceiling of the 3. There is so much untapped potential with him. But if I had to go with one, it's a tough one, but I'd probably go Mayo, Harden and Derozan in that order...

I like both guys.... Harden is a glue guy that you can put at SG-SF and he will be a great contributor. I like his defense more than Mayos.

But Mayo can put the ball in the basket. better natural scorer that can sleepwalk a 20 point game. BOS has sf's so Id choose Mayo.

Hes not going to get his potential in Memphis. When Gay comes back, thats about 15 shots there mixed in with the Post offense of Gasol and Randolph, Mayo would THRIVE on a team like Pacers,

brwnman
05-14-2011, 03:01 PM
Honestly, I think Mayo needs a better system to play in. We could say the same thing about Harden as well. Both of their games are limited because of the system and players they are around. I don't have any doubt they'd be putting up better numbers on a different team. For Harden's development, it is the right start. For Mayo, he needs to be playing 35 minutes a game to get better understanding of the game...

Also, how weird is it that an avearge NBA player has such a vocal following.

Harden. More efficient and actually more athletic (although Mayo's a better jumper than he's given credit for). Harden reminds me of a poor man's Ginobli in that he does everything, gets to the line, and hits threes, while Mayo is a more rounded, less flamable Ben Gordon. I'll take the poor man's Ginobli any day.

Agreed, the Bucks was kind of OJ Mayo's last chance to live up to his hype. Now he's that hyped up baller who turned out to be just another alright SG and not the next "Kobe." On the side note, guarding OJ Mayo in 2k11 in myplayer was always fun. I used to always bait him into attempting threes and end up blocking more than half of them with my athletic 6'8'' SG :D

It's crazy when you think about the downfall OJ experienced. He was extremely hyped when he was in high school and college, and even got called "The next LeBron" because of the hype he was getting. There's literally a whole article on that. Then when he made the NBA, he had a very promising first 2 seasons. In his 3rd season, he started coming off the bench and from then on he started to suck... now he's banned from the league
