View Full Version : Could Shaq actually be 6'10"?

I know a lot of players listed heights are wrong. Olajuwon was listed at 7'0" and was probably about 6'10" tall. I thought that Shaq was one of the people that was at least as tall as the listed height if not taller. In his predraft measurements, Shaq was listed @ 7'2.75 in shoes, and 7'1" in bare feet and having an incredible 9'8" standing reach. What got me thinking that Shaq was actually 6'10" and maybe 250lbs was the infamous staredown between Shaq and Paul Wight which people often talk about on pro wrestling newsgroups/forums. Shaq was clearly taller when wearing sneakers compared to Wight's wrestling boots, but when both were wearing the exact same dress shoes from the WWE wardrobe department(one place where Shaq will have no problem finding shoes and clothing big enough), Wight actually seemed to be the taller of the 2. Now, the WWE listed Wight at 7'0" and 443.
Since the WWE lies about heights/weights, wouldn't that make Wight 6'10" 350lbs? If Wight is indeed 6'10" 350lbs, then Shaq must be 6'10" 250lbs.
Anyway, here's the staredown with identical footware for both.

Olajuwon must really be 6'6" tall if the WWE exaggerates the heights of pro wrestlers as much as people say.:lol

Shaq was measured at 7'1" in the 1992 NBA Pre Draft Camp. He's a legit 7 footer.

Paul Wight was listed at 7'0" in College while Hakeem Olajuwon admitted that he's 6'10".

Duncan was measured at 6'11". He was listed at 7'0" a couple of years ago, but the NBA Website updated his physical stats in the 2006 NBA Season.

So you expect me to believe that the WWE is actually accurate about the heights of its wrestlers? Was Andre the Giant really 7'5" 520lbs?
Was Hulk Hogan really 6'7" 330lbs in his prime?

Big Show was billed at 7'2" in the attitude era. Randy Orton is a legit 6'4". By WWE Listing he should be listed at 6'6". Paul Wight was originally billed at 7'3" in the WCW.

So what you're saying is that the WWE is actually giving real listed heights now? I really do find that to be a pretty though pill to swallow.
I've always heard that you have to subtract 2 to 4 inches and 50 to 100lbs to get the real height and weight of a pro wrestler.

Yes,
Sometimes the WWE don't exaggerate their wrestlers heights. I believe Hulk Hogan was a legit 6'6" when he was younger.

MMA Shane Carwin is listed @ 6'5", but his staredown pics proved that he's really about 6'1". He wore sneakers and a baseball hat to try and fool people into thinking that he was 6'5", but it was an EPIC fail and people could see that 6'3" Frank Mir was taller than him.

I really don't care how tall a player is. Even if Shaq ere only 6'10" he was still a damn good basketball player. If he's actually only 6'10" (which I think we all know he's a legit 7 footer) does that make him a worse or better player in your eyes? I mean really?

Paul Wight actually is 7 feet even barefoot. He was billed at 7-4 in WCW and 7-2 in WWE originally. Then he went on some interview I believe ABC and they asked him tall he was and he said himself he was 7-1.
They asked him if they could measure him and he agreed. His real height turned out to be 7 feet barefoot. So he is indeed 7 feet barefoot.
Now to the pictures you posted Wight and Shaq are indeed the same height in those pics. However if you will closely you will notice that Wight is wearing boots. So Wight gains an extra inch of height making him appear 7-1.
So that means Shaq is indeed 7-1 barefoot.

They were caught lying so many times that in some cases they stopped exaggerating. However they still add about 2 inches in height to most guys. If you will notice ever since the government forced steroid testing on them, most of the wrestlers have lost huge amounts of weight.

Sometimes the WWE don't exaggerate their wrestlers heights. I believe Hulk Hogan was a legit 6'6" when he was younger.
WWE (then WWF) billed Hogan at 6-8. WCW billed him at 6-7. Hogan has been actually measured at 6-3. According to Hogan he had two back surgeries which cost him 2 inches of height. Whether that is legit or he is just lying who knows? But either way it means he was never taller than 6-5 at the most.
If you wonder, Andre The Giant was billed at 7-4 by WWE (then WWF) and he was actually measured at 7-0 1/2. I forget exactly who measured him but he was actually measured officially at 7-0 1/2. But his disease started to shrink him as he got older and when he died he was more like 6-10.

Yea let's use the metric system for just heights, that wouldn't be even more confusing. And what the **** does using the metric system have to do with this topic at all? If you use the metric system, are all measurements of players accurate? Idiot.

They would be a hell of a lot more accurate. With the metric system there is no rounding up or down of heights. Also there is no listing the same height for players that are actually not the same height. There is no estimating height either. With the English system there is too much estimating in the measurements.
If the NBA used the metric system to list heights 90% of these issues would be eliminated. A guy can be 6-9 3/4 and another guy can be 6-10 1/2 and the NBA just lists them both at 6-10. When you see a game you wonder why one guy is taller than the other.
With the metric system that would be eliminated. It's much, much more accurate.

you need to learn the definition of that word accurate. What you actually mean to say is that it is more precise, due to the smaller size of the reported unit (cm).

The UFC website had himn at 6'5 and he said he didnt know why they did that.

Apparently Rondo's decline in the finals had nothing to do with Kobe's defense but the Lakers bigs protecting the big. I said a 7'1 shaq and a 6'11 DPOY Howard should be able to contain the paint aswell. Then Apparentely Shaq became 6'10 and Howard became 6'9, and both Pau Gasol and injured Bynum stayed about 7-7'1 so they protected the paint easily.

 Look at Shaq next to other big men in this thread like Duncan, Olajuwon and Stoudemire, if anything, Shaq is taller than 7'1" and that's without shoes. Ever see him play against Dwight Howard? Dwight looks tiny in comparison. I remember Larry Bird commenting in the 2000 finals on how close Shaq was to Rik Smits height(listed 7'4"). He was definitely no shorter than Mutombo either.
Not sure if this thread is serious.

doesn't matter if shaq is 6'8 or 7'1, his legacy still remains as one of the best players of all time, i could say he's the best center but he's more than that.
I'm 6' 7 5/8" and worked in the media for years. I've stood next to both Paul "Big Show" Wight (who attended Northern Oklahoma College when I lived in Oklahoma) and Shaq, when we both lived in Phoenix.
Wight is focking gigantic. While in juco, he used to come to the sports card store owned by a friend of mine. He had to have other people open packs of cards; his hands are so huge that he couldn't tear them open without bending/creasing cards. A Pepsi can in his hand looked like one of those miniatures that people keep in shadow boxes. I guarantee that he's 7'1"+.
While in Oklahoma, I also had occassion to meet and spend time with Kareem, who was the same height or slightly taller than Wight. Tough to tell, as their body types are so disimilar. But he's generally listed at 7'2".
Shaq is as tall as either of them. I don't think people...even those that watch NBA...have any concept how huge that guy is. Again, I'm a big person, but you couldn't even see me standing behind him. He blocked out the sun. It was wierd.
Also got to meet Wilt, but I was 9 or 10 at the time. He may as well have been 20 feet tall, I was so star struck.
I've had a lucky life.
