Backcourt duos don't really get as much attention as frontcourt bigs. But a good backcourt duo can really get you into the playoffs and dominate for stretches. What do you think is the best backcourt duo in the game?

I say Kobe Bryant and Smush Parker

combined for 69 points against the Mavs in 3 quarters.

and 94 points against the Raptors.

You don't get more dominant than that.

Too bad they were only together for that one year.

Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars is the first one that pops into my head but I'll have to think it over.

PS - Smush Parker lol

I don't think the original poster is serious, but I'll bite and say Bob Cousy/Bill Sharman and Isiah Thomas/Joe Dumars.

Over two of the NBA's "50 Greatest Players" (Cousy/Sharman)?

Sharman is a nobody. I never think of Sharman when I think of Boston players.

Goodrich>Sharman
West>Cousy

And I'm a Celtics fan.

Both these guys tend to get overrated on this board, although KJ was all-star level.

Penny Hardaway/Nick Anderson was a great backcourt for about 6 minutes at some point in the 90's...

KJ, was the best point guard in the 90's.

The classic prototypical backcourt. Too bad for Jonny's injuries because we could have got to see the remix with Hersey Hawkins.

I'd like to throw in there Gary Payton and Hersey Hawkins. Probably the best defensive backcourt ever assembled.

Me neither. I would put KJ on a Tim Hardaway level.

I have to say this for your fellow Celtic fans.....BLASPHEMY!!!

Really?

West and Goodrich were amazing. I've seen enough old footage to choose them. Sharman and Cousy ...... I just get no enjoyment from watching that era. The guards look terrible.

Isiah and Dumars were pretty damn good, plus you had Vinnie "the Microwave" Johnson off the bench.

in terms of balance, and limiting myself to players during my nba-viewing lifetime, its hard to argue against zeke and joe d.

True, that was a fun one to watch.

Here is a sweet mix I found of B-Diddy throwing J-rich some alleyoops

Baron was still one of the best PG's in the league back then

Ron Harper and Jordan.

cause Ron knew what Jordan wanted and let him play.

Yeah a pair of 6'6" guards who both could guard 1s and 2s each. Well maybe not the quicker PGs for Ron during the 2nd 3peat, but these two presented a lot of matchup problems for the opposition. I remember how difficult it was for opposing PGs to throw passes over this backcourt.

This was a good one. I also liked Baron and Monta together.

But I may slightly overrate Chauncey and Rip as well. Of course they're not all time level, but they were pretty damn good.

Statistically it's actually Gilbert Arenas and Larry Hughes from 04-05. Check out that these stats.

Gilbert- 25ppg/5 assists/5 rebounds/ 2 steals
Hughes- 22ppg/6 rebounds/5 assists/3 steals

Wsh: 45 Wins, got to the 2nd round, most successful season for the Wizards in last 20 years.

Arenas- All-NBA 3rd Team, 2nd in the league in 4th quarter points.
Hughes- All-NBA Defensive 1rst team, lead the league in steals

Following this season, Hughes bolted for Cleveland and got that big deal. But they were a monster for that one year. Good chemistry too as they shared the ball handling duties down the line.

Oh by the way, this should be evidence that Arenas can co-exist with John Wall.

Other no brainers.

All in no order.
