View Full Version : Does Stephen Curry Have The Prettiest Jumper In The Game?

It's been an entire career for Jesus, but I think my boy finally has some competition. What do you guys think? It's a thing of athletic beauty. 3D must be proud! Ray Ray's is a little more effortless maybe. This kid is going to win rings man. If he's smart and signs on with a contender as their shooter. But that's the floor... how good can he actually get when defenders have to respect his jump shot and he does actually seem to have some floor vision? Dude's footwork was impeccable before he got to the league. So what does ISH think? I remember I posted a thread last year about the Knicks wanting to take him 7'th and a bunch of peeps said he would never make it in the NBA.

Here's a sample.

He kinda jumps forward in his movement, it looks a little awkward.

Martell Webster has a really nice jumper.

Curry has textbook form in almost every way. Almost looks like a set shot since he doesn't get much jump on his shot but it still works.

The beauty of Curry's jumper isn't its form. A lot of players have good form on their jumper, but Curry's is perfect from top to bottom in the way that it is adaptable to the situation. Meaning, you know, he can get it off quickly if he has to and still have the same motion. That is something few people have...

Those that come to mind are Ray Ray and Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. After that... the list drops off. Reggie Miller, I guess, also.

Agreed on Jesus. Mahmoud had some sick games when he was at LSU as Chris Jackson. Simply unguardable.

Agreed. He has a very quick release (and can go even quicker depending on the situation) while keeping perfect form. Just beautiful.

You get the sense that he's going to be an effective player in the league for a long time. Jumpers know no age. Every team needs 'em.

I think it's Curry's footwork too. Watch where his feet land as he approaches a screen, every single time. It's like a whole play is one single motion. I'd love to have his jumper for just one game.

Kobe easily, Ray's shot is really awkward, the bent elbow and the way he swings the ball back before releasing, no ball spin either.

I don't think there is one true "sexiest" jumper in the league. Like women, I find there to be many different aesthetics forms of beauty. Jumpers I find fascinating to watch ...

Jesus Shuttlesworth
Kobe Bryant
Jamal Crawford
Baron Davis
JR Smith
OJ Mayo
Ben Gordon (even though I can't stand him)
Carmelo Anthony
Dwyane Wade
Chauncey Billups
Deron Williams
Gilbert Arenas
Kirk Hinrich
Brandon Jennings

There are a TON of visually stimulating jump shots to me as a basketball fan.

Please tell me you're joking. Ray Allen's jumpshot is the opposite of awkward.

Top 4 in the league for me

Ray Ray
Mayo
Reddick
Kobe

Of all the rookies this year, I like Jenning's jumpshot the most (I'm a lefty myself, have a soft spot...)

Curry's a great shooter, but I agree with whoever said Morrow's is prettier.

Good looking on J.J. ... I forgot about him, honestly.

I actually don't find Stephen's jumper to be that pretty, honestly. It's too much of a push shot for me.

Steve Nash / Dirk Nowitzki also have sexy jumpers

T-Mac's leaning, leg forward jumper is nice too

Morrow is good obviously, but I think Curry had a strong edge on him. Curry's jumpers look good even before the pick. He understands how to get that bit of space between him and his defender off the dribble, or in any situation really. I don't think his mechanics are nearly as smooth or effortless either.

How does one BECOME a pure shooter? Doesn't the name imply that it's an inherent ability, and not an acquired one?

He doesn't get much elevation. It's part of the reason he has such a quick release. It's like a combonation of a set shot and a jumper.

It's obvious you don't even know what a set shot is. ;0

That, and his elevation is fine. Curry is short and it's a little deceiving.

Not really... being a pure shooter has more to do with solid, smooth fundamental mechanics that are constant no matter what shooting scenario you're in. Fade away on a deep 3? should be no problem.

That's why I said "like" a set shot or a combonation of a jumper and a set shot. Kind of like hmmmm a "push" shot.

I think you've probably got something against him, or have not watched him play at all.
I CLEARLY have an agenda against Stephen Curry :oldlol: (a player I have no problem with, who I rooted for constantly for while he was in college) ... I just don't think his jumper is very good looking. That's all. I've seen better, especially in the NBA.

Heh, well if that's the case then why are you saying a textbook jumper is a set shot or a push shot? ;0 His arc is perfect. Show me a link of him pushing his shots. ;0 Maybe you don't know what pushing a shot is as well?

There are countless jumpers in the league that can be considered textbook. Why are you taking such offense to me not finding Steph Curry's jumper as visually enthralling as you may find it?

:oldlol:

It's like your bitter beer face over an issue of preference. Nothing can be backed in fact that saying a) Curry has a "text book" jumpshot or b) that it's the "prettiest jumper in the game"

This whole thread is issue of opinion.

The reason I don't think Curry's jumper is the "prettiest" is because as I described. Its a jumper that leans more towards being a set shot / push shot.

I love Curry and his shooting. But I still think his release is a little bit awkward.

And I know the OP will come in here raging about how it is "text book perfect", or how for awkward shots you have to look for Marion or Noah, so two things:

1. I am not saying his shot is awkward nor ugly. I'm saying there's a tiny bit of awkwardness in his release if we're discussing his for "prettiest jumper".

2. This is just my opinion, which happens to not think his jumper is the prettiest in the game. I think his jumper is damn good, but I can think of a handful of players whose shot looks better.
