NBA Live '10 vs. NBA 2K10

Which one are you going to get? What features will make one better than the other?

I haven't bought a basketball game in a while, but need some diversity in my gaming (I only own COD4 & Gran Turismo 5 Prologue). The last NBA game I bought was Live '08... which was okay, but impossible to play defense on, and too difficult to find the shooting stroke for some players while taking 3PT shots.

So, which one do you like, and are going to buy in October?

I have played live ever since 2000....Live 09 is a good game and I'm sure Live '10 will be even better. Combine that with a nice little HD Tv and I'm good.

2K9 is boring and 2K10 will be even more boring

NBA 2K10 is a first day buy.

Live 2010 is a rent and then buy if it's good.


EA hired (stole) NBA 2k's lead programmer to do Live 2010, so it may be much improved. If not... I won't buy it.

You just know NBA Live 10 is going to stink. The only way that series can be fixed is if they build a new engine from the ground up, because that is what is wrong with it. Lord knows they have tried the past couple of seasons, but you just can not turn a Lada into a BMW. And I just don't think they are going to make a new engine right now.

Live is like a 6'2 guy trying to be a center in the NBA. The guy could be more talented than Hakeem, stronger than Shaq and have the hunger of Michael Jordan, but it's just not going to work out. No amount of talent, basketball IQ or training is going to help, because at the end he is still a 6'2 motherfokka.


2k still needs to step it up though. They set a very decent standard with NBA 2k8, but there is just still a ton of room for improvement and I am not going to play the same game with a roster update three years in a row. They need to really slick out their presentation at the very least.

That is cold. Live 05 was pretty good. Then this superstar thing they came up with was retarded. How in the hell is Yao Ming hitting half court hook shots? Then we played Live 07 because it came with the sports package for a new 360. That game was great, great comedy. We were laughing so hard playing this game. That was the last time I played a NBA Live game.

I dont think so. You actually have to practice to be good at 2K games. You have to be able to recognize the release point for every player that has different shot.

Unless the live trailers tell me that they started everything from the groudn up than il consider trying out Live but if not than im sticking with 2k, the only thing I like about nba live is the mid range game is better than 2k ...

Really? Well, I haven't really picked it up since Live '07, but my friends have been saying it's been pretty laggy. I remember playing '08 though and Barbosa got stuck in mid-air shooting a 3 while everyone else continued.

The only way I can see someone liking Live better than 2k is if theyre into to the NBA Jams, Streets, etc. and only find dunking and 3 ponters fun. Im amazed that people like Live better, 2k completely SH*TS on Live and its not even close.

well IMO 2000 and 2005 were the only years that live beat 2K (Live 2000 best NBA game ever, tied with NBA street 2, betta recognize biotch :D )
2K is more realistic and although I didnt really like 2k9 it was way better than live 09. I'm gonna try both this year, but I have a feeling 2k will be better, like most years. moves just look more realistic (jumpshots, layups, dunks, blocks, dribbles, basicly everything). Also, live players look like stick figures :confusedshrug:

I've been switching between live and 2k the past couple of years..I got 2k for 08 and I got live for 09...Live 09 was a huge improvement compared to previous versions...as for 2k, it seems like the series got stuck(not too many improvements)...

I just downloaded the 2K9 demo off the Playstation Store, and that demo is pure trash.

I wouldn't play it if someone game me the full game for free if it plays anything like the demo.

Good idea. I know you are a huge B-ball fan and you will love the authenticity of the 2K Basketball games. Just be aware that they do require practice to play well. You don't just jump into them and start kicking ass.

If you enjoy simulation Basketball, NBA 2K series is the best... there is no arguement.

Now, not everyone prefers simulation sports games. Some people like games that are more exciting and fast paced than the real life sports... which is fine.

Personally, I like to feel like I'm playing a real NBA game. For that experience, NBA 2K series is the best, and it isn't close.



I will be renting NBA Live '10 this year though, because they stole NBA 2K's lead designer ($$)... and I think they are looking to make some big strides with this years installment.

U people are funny I way back to NBA Live on Sega Genesis even Live 97 to 99 for PC down to present time Best Live most would agree Live 04' for ps2 since then EA went for great graphics but bad fake gameplay 2k got to admit may not look as pretty but the gameplay takes out Live by far get a clue people!!! lol. I was more of a live fan, and wanted to buy live, but when I went to the store it wasn't there I just bought 2k9 and I thought it was great. I think 2k10 will > Live.

the post play in 2k9 is horrible, especially when compared to live 09.. i straight up smash it on whoever after spinning past my defender in the paint.. hell even backing down in 2k9 is weird.

for people who think live is garbage... its 2009, not 2007..they rebuilt the engine after the horrible live 2007 and changed EVERYTHING.. 08 was a HUGE improvement over 2007 and 09 is even better..

yea i use zone too. usually a 1-3-1 vs. friends/online but man to man against the computer. Zone pretty much makes everything easier :ohwell:
