New Jersey Nets sign Kaniel Dickens

The New Jersey Nets have signed forward Kaniel Dickens, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not released. In other roster moves, the Nets have requested waivers on forward Awvee Storey and placed center Jabari Smith on the injured list with a sprained left ankle.
We are pleased to add Kaniel to our roster, said Thorn. He is a versatile player who has the ability to shoot the basketball, adding depth to our bench.
Dickens (68, 235 lbs), was the leading scorer of the Continental Basketball Association this season while playing for the Idaho Stampede, averaging 29.4 ppg while shooting a league-leading 57.1% (20-35) from three point range Dickens was also averaging 9.6 rebounds per contest, ranking him fifth in the league. During the 2004 preseason, Dickens played in five games for the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 3.6 ppg and 2.0 rpg.
Dickens signed with the Portland Trailblazers on December 19, 2003, and played in three games before being waived on Januay 7, 2004. He totaled seven points on 3-3 shooting in 12 minutes of play and scored a career-high four points at New Jersey on December 29, 2003. Dickens also played in 29 games for the Dakota Wizards of the CBA during the 2003-04 season, averaging 19.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg. During his professional career, Dickens has spent time in the NBDL, with Fayetteville and Mobile in 2001-02, as well as playing in Russia, China and Spain. After playing his junior and senior seasons at the University of Idaho, Dickens was selected by the Utah Jazz in the second round (50th overall) of the 2000 NBA draft.
Jabari Smith appeared in one game for the Nets this season (12/4, vs. Atlanta), logging four points in eight minutes. The 6-11 center, who signed with the Nets on October 4, 2004, was on the injured list for the first 15 games of the season with a sprained left ankle.
Awvee Storey, who was signed by the Nets on October 4, 2004, played in nine games this season, averaging 0.9 ppg and 0.6 rpg in 3.6 mpg.
