Boston Celtics acquire Dan Dickau
Celtics News | Sept. 30, 2005
The Boston Celtics announced today they have acquired point guard
Dan Dickau from the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. In exchange the
Celtics will send New Orleans/Oklahoma City Miami's 2006 second round draft
choice, which the Celtics acquired in a previous deal.
Dickau, a 6-0 guard, enjoyed his best season in 2004-05 with Dallas and New
Orleans, achieving career-high's in nearly every major statistical category.
In 71 appearances, including 46 starts, he averaged 12.5 points and 4.9
assists in 29.4 minutes per game. After being acquired from Dallas, Dickau
averaged 13.2 points, 5.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game in 67 appearances
with the Hornets.
The 28th selection in the 2002 NBA Draft by Sacramento, Dickau played his
first season with Atlanta, averaging 3.7 points and 1.7 assists per game in
50 appearances. In 2003-04, his second season in the NBA, Dickau averaged
2.2 points per game in 43 appearances with Atlanta and Portland.
Dickau played his final two seasons of college basketball at Gonzaga, after
transferring from the University of Washington. As a senior at Gonzaga, he
was named a First Team All-American by the AP, becoming the first player in
school history to earn that distinction. He was also a finalist for the
Wooden and Naismith awards, while leading the West Coast Conference in
scoring with 21.0 points per game.
InsideHoops.com Editor's View: The Celtics have lots of backup-quality point guards and no clear starter, so they've loaded up and will let training camp battles determine the regular season starter. Right now the favorite to start is Delonte West, though Dickau has a very legit shot as well.
