Davis has spent 28 years in the NBA as a player, coach or front office executive. Davis has twice been a head coach in the NBA, first with Philadelphia (1996-97) and most recently with Orlando (2003-04 – 2004-05). Originally hired as an assistant with the Magic, Davis was promoted to head coach on Nov. 13, 2003. His career coaching record in two-plus seasons with Philadelphia and Orlando is 73-144. In addition to his stints as a head coach, Davis has been an assistant coach in the NBA for 12 seasons, having coached with Atlanta, the L.A. Clippers, New Jersey, Orlando and Portland.

Originally drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round (22nd overall) of the 1976 NBA Draft, Davis enjoyed a solid playing career. In 10 seasons with Portland, Indiana, Atlanta and Cleveland, he averaged 12.9 points and 4.5 assists per game. As a rookie, Davis was an integral member of Portland’s 1977 NBA World Championship team.
