Celtics sign their first round draft picks

The Boston Celtics signed first round draft selections Al
Jefferson, Delonte West and Tony Allen today. Jefferson was selected with
the 15th overall pick, West with the 24th overall pick and Allen was picked
25th in the NBA Draft held on June 24, 2004. Terms of the deals were not
disclosed.
Jefferson, a 6-10, 265lb forward was an early entry candidate in the 2004
NBA Draft, coming out of Prentiss High School in Prentiss, Mississippi. As a
senior, Jefferson averaged 42.6 points and 18.0 rebounds per game on his way
to being named Mr. Basketball in the state of Mississippi. He was named
All-State, All-Conference and Conference MVP all four seasons of high
school. Jefferson was named to the 2004 McDonald's All-American Team and was
a First Team All-American by PARADE and USA Today.
West, a 6-4, 180lb guard played three seasons at St. Joseph's before
entering the 2004 NBA Draft as an early entry candidate. As a junior, West
averaged 18.9 points per game on 51.0 percent shooting from the field. He
was named a First Team All-American by Basketball Times on his way to
becoming the 42nd player in St. Joseph's history to score 1,000 points.
Allen, a 6-4, 213lb guard played the final two seasons of his collegiate
career at Oklahoma State, averaging 15.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in
67 career games. As a senior, Allen was named Big 12 Player of the Year by
the league's coaches as he averaged 16.0 points per game and became the
first player in school history to surpass the 1,000 career point mark in
only two seasons.
All three will play in the Pepsi Pro Summer League in Orlando being held
from July 6-10 and the Reebok Vegas Summer League from July 13-18. They
will join current Celtics Marcus Banks, Ernest Brown and Kendrick Perkins.
