San Antonio Spurs release Anthony Carter
Carter continues to bounce around
The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have bought out the remainder of Anthony Carter's contract after it was determined that a current knee condition prevents him from playing at his full potential. The agreement that was reached now places Carter on free agent status.
It is likely that Carter's next move will be to undergo surgery, which will be followed by a rehabilitation program that will allow him to get back on the court before the end of the season. Carter will also use this time to continue his work with the "I Have A Dream" * Foundation, which provides long-term enrichment and support to at-risk youth to put them on a path to success.
"We all worked together to come up with this agreement," said Spurs General Manager R.C. Buford. "AC worked hard and did everything that we asked of him during his time in San Antonio. But due to the condition of his knee it was better for everyone involved to make this move at this time."
Carter was signed by the Spurs on August 1, 2003. He appeared in five games with San Antonio, averaging 4.4 points, 2.4 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 17.4 minutes. Carter missed 13 games while on the injured list due to the condition of his knee.
