In one of Aesop's signature fables, a wolf dresses up in sheep's clothing to deceive its prey. Antawn Jamison's uniform isn't made of sheepskin, though he's able to produce a similar effect when suiting up for the Mavericks. A career 19-point scorer in five-plus NBA seasons, Jamison is averaging 14.3 with the Mavericks. Of course, he's now coming off the bench and playing 10 fewer minutes per game than last season in Golden State. Still, his average makes him the top-scoring sixth man in the NBA, ahead of Bobby Jackson (13.9), Al Harrington (13.2), Desmond Mason (12.5) and Drew Gooden (11.6). Call them starters in subs' uniforms. Jamison is also shooting a career-high 51 percent from the field, which proves he isn't coming into the game looking to post numbers, rather he's taking good shots and making them. An injury to Ron Artest has vaulted Harrington into Indiana's starting lineup, while the trade of Tim Thomas has paved the way for Mason to start in Milwaukee. Jackson (Sacramento) and Gooden (Orlando) remain their teams' top sub. Other notable sixth men include Houston's Maurice Taylor, Seattle's Ronald Murray and New York's Penny Hardaway.
Wednesday on ESPN: Lakers at Houston (9 p.m. EST). In two games against Los Angeles this season, both victories, Yao Ming is averaging 23.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, while Shaquille O'Neal's numbers are 23.0 ppg and 9.5 rpg.
Tonight on NBA TV: L.A. Clippers at Sacramento (10 p.m EST). The Kings have won all three meetings this season, and 17 of the last 22 overall. Vlade Divac has dished out at least nine assists in seven of his last 10 games, averaging 9.4 assists since the All-Star break.
Indiana's Fred Jones is averaging 11.0 points over his last three games heading into tonight's matchup with Golden State. The Pacers defeated the Warriors 107-96 last Tuesday behind 34 points from Jermaine O'Neal.
New Jersey has won eight of 10, while Denver has dropped five of six. The Nets and Nuggets each lead their conference in dunks. New Jersey is ranked third overall and first in the east with 208 dunks, while Denver is ranked first in the NBA with 257.
